Transformation Solution

Stagecoach, the Oxford Bus Company and Thames Travel have embraced this smartcard ticketing solution which is the first City Wide ITSO interoperable system in the UK. Passengers can now use either the Stagecoach ‘Smart’ card or the Oxford Bus ‘the Key’ card to travel on any bus within the zone. Coordinated timetabling and ticket operations will result in a significant reduction in bus numbers travelling through the City, reducing traffic congestion and carbon emission without any reduction in service to passengers.

To enable the scheme, Vix have provided a widespread deployment of TP5700 and TP5000 Smart ticket machines. These ensure that the Smart solution operates seamlessly through the use of advanced HOPS to HOPS messaging between the different bus providers.
